SUMMARY:January 2025 Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Time-lapse Photography — January 15\, 2025 \nDaniel Germinario – Nikon presentation \nShooting a time-lapse is different than just a single photo\, so we will cover some of the important things to consider when choosing a location and subject.  Since there is a technical aspect to selecting the correct settings\, we ensure that we cover all the major steps involved in choosing the resolution\, interval\, frame rate and the number of shots to take\, trying to make it all a relatively easy process.” \nhttps://guelphphotographersguild.com/2024/11/22/time-lapse-photography-january-15-2025/

SUMMARY:GPG November Outing
DESCRIPTION:Where: Spring Mill Distillery\n43 Arthur Street South\nGuelph\, ON\nN1E 7K1  \nSaturday November 16 — 9:30am to 11:30 am. \nThis guided tour is $10 per person\, or $15 for tour & tasting (3 samples included per person)\, payable after the tour. The tour will take place before they open at noon\, so technically we’ll have till noon to shoot\, and it will be limited to our group only. (This latter point is still to be clarified). \nThey do offer at a cost\, small snacks such as beer nuts\, hummus & vegetables\, chips & salsa\, plate of pickles\, trail mix\, and charcuterie boards. They also have a retail store\, where you may purchase some of their products\, see sampling above. \nNOTE: Flash photography is NOT allowed.\nThey have not said no to tripods\, but from my experience there at Doors Open\, most of the Distillery presents very tight quarters\, so I think we should avoid tripods. Monopods should be fine. \nEquipment: A wide angle and/or a short tele-zoom lens should cover all your needs here. \nWe can do lunch after\, location to be determined. \nPlease respond if you intend to go or not\, so that we have an idea of numbers attending. \nLooking forward to seeing you there.

SUMMARY:July 2024 outing
DESCRIPTION:Our July outing will be to the always spectacular Grand River Champion of Champions Powwow.\n\nDate: JULY —27th – 12 noon to 4 pm (rain date on July 28th)\n\nI’ve been to this Powwow prior to Covid\, and it is a memorable event\, with highly acclaimed dancers\, drummers\, and singers\, all vying for prize money. You’ll get to see representatives from most of North America’s First Nations cultural groups\, in their finest regalia. Expect a very active and truly colourful event… and loud too!\n\nThere is seating\, but the Powwow starts at 10 am\, so expect that most of that seating will be taken\, you may be lucky and find seating\, but really it is far better to wander about and try to get as close to the front as you can. Be warned\, getting to the front\, in front of the seating will get you yelled at. \n\nHere is the only link that I can find for this year’s event. Read the website carefully\, there are house rules.\n\nhttps://www.facebook.com/GrandRiverPowwow/ \n— this is the 2024 link\n\nGrand River Champion of Champions Pow Wow\n— this is a 2023 link\n\nCost: $15 per person\, there is no mention of a senior’s rate.\n\nMap is here:\nhttps://www.google.com/maps/place/Ohsweken+Speedway/@43.082794\,-80.111992\,14z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x882c5fda8d235867:0x63a790cc65a061fa!8m2!3d43.0827941!4d-80.1119918!16zL20vMDVna3Fo?hl=en&entry=ttu\n\n\nGear:  You are probably going to need a medium to long lens here (100-400mm or 70-200 mm). The dance area is roped off\, so you’ll not get very close to the action. Bring hats and sunscreen as this is an outdoor event. \n\nIt’s about a 1.5 hr drive each way. BTW: Exceptional gas prices in the area at the First Nations gas stations.\n\nPlease respond if you are going to attend.

SUMMARY:Close focus and macro workshop
DESCRIPTION:You’ve asked\, we’re about to deliver. \nOn April 11 — 7-10pm\, we will be doing An Introduction to Close-focus & Macro Workshop\, based on using your everyday carry\, with an introduction to more specialized gear. The zoom event will be followed by a practical hands-on outing shortly after\, at a date yet to be determined. \nThere will be a $20 charge\, payable to the Guelph Photographers Guild\, that covers the Zoom meeting\, notes on the presentation\, as well as the practical outing. \nIf you are interested in this workshop\, you will need to pre-register and pay via e-transfer to the GPG email: \nguelphphotoguild@gmail.com\nRe: Close-focus & Macro workshop. \nA digital version of the presentation notes will be sent to all members who have pre-registered and paid the above fee\, prior to the Zoom event. It would be a good idea to go through those notes and make a list of any questions that you might want to ask at the Zoom meeting. Since we only have a 3-hour window for the Zoom session\, please try to keep questions as concise as possible.

SUMMARY:March 2024 Outing
DESCRIPTION:Greetings Guelph Photographers!\n \nFor this month’s outing\, we are going to Paris… Ontario that is!!  \nWhen: Saturday March 23\nWhere: Meet at Penman’s Dam Park at 10AM – Google Maps link here: \nhttps://www.google.com/maps/place/Penman’s+Dam+Park/@43.1964146\,-80.3840206\,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x882c6d6d81e1799b:0x607f471d581dd13f!8m2!3d43.1964107!4d-80.3814457!16s%2Fg%2F11g0hmy38f?authuser=0&entry=ttu\n \n \nThere are a number of interesting vantage points to check out\, and a few local events going on\, so hopefully there is something here for everyone;\n \nWe’ll start at the river/dam/bridge vantage point. There is also…\n– The classic view of the downtown from the William St. Bridge\n– A wide array of vintage buildings/architecture through downtown and surrounding.\n– Additionally\, there are a few happenings at the local fairgrounds. (NOTE: not necessarily within walking distance from downtown)\n \nTo tie it all up\, Gord highly recommends a lunch break (and used-book-browsing\, if you’re into that) at the Dog-Eared Cafe. Depending on interest\, we may try to reserve a table or two.\n \nPARKING – in addition to the Penman Dam meeting point\, here is a map of other public parking spots around downtown Paris.\n\n \nPlease  let Andrew &/or Gord know if you will be attending\, so we have an idea of overall numbers\, never mind knowing who to wait for at the rendezvous point before we set forth.\n \nHope to see you there!\n \nAndrew\n

SUMMARY:GPG February 2024 Outing
DESCRIPTION:Saturday February 17th – 9-11am\nThe Hammond Museum of Radio\n595 Southgate Dr\, Guelph\, ON N1G 3W6 \nCost: No charge \nThis will be on a first come\, first served basis\, only 15 people are allowed in. All slots are now filled\, but if you are still thinking of coming\, let me know and I’ll add you to the waiting list in case anyone drops out.\nThis is an indoor event\, so no need to worry about the weather unless we have a five-star blizzard or something. \n\nGear: You will need fast lenses as this is a museum (no windows). A short telephoto in the 70-200 range would be perfect. We will be fairly close to the museum pieces\, so no need for long telephoto\, or ultra wide lenses. Bear in mind that it’s a fairly tight space\, so I would not bring a tripod\, a monopod might be ok though. We will need to be extremely careful – everything is old\, breakable\, expensive\, and irreplaceable. If you break it\, you will be responsible.

SUMMARY:GPG January 2024 outing
DESCRIPTION:Our first outing for 2024. Mark you calendars: \nSaturday\, January 20th 9 am till noon. \nThe plan is to go to Thak Ironworks in Floradale\, an authentic old-world forge\, to see a demonstration of hot iron being pounded into something decorative\, or maybe a sharp-edged pointed thingy. We will get a two hour demonstration (pictures allowed – see below)\, and then have about an hour to wander about at the forge\, shooting whatever catches our eye. \nCost will be $20 per person which we’ll do in cash please. You can either pay me before or at the event. I’ll keep a list of those interested\, so as to get an idea of numbers. Please respond by email. We will need a minimum of 10\, but there is room for more\, with tiered seating in the studio. \nDo not wear your Sunday best\, This is a working forge and it’s very messy\, and can be noisy too. \nAfterwards\, there is a reservoir within walking distance  (image #3) that usually has a number of birds\, as well as a coffee/pastry restaurant\, all within a short walk or a 3 minute drive. See images below: \nhttps://www.flickr.com/photos/pixl_by_pixl/49225713912/in/datetaken/ \nhttps://www.flickr.com/photos/pixl_by_pixl/32683656927/in/datetaken/ \nhttps://www.flickr.com/photos/pixl_by_pixl/47626296971/in/datetaken/ \nMap is here:\nhttps://www.google.com/maps/dir/43.5448048\,-80.2481666/thak+Ironworks+map/@43.5920019\,-80.5691453\,12.11z/data=!4m9!4m8!1m1!4e1!1m5!1m1!1s0x882be93207358899:0xa97f5fcd5e246caf!2m2!1d-80.5802084!2d43.6357832?entry=ttu\nWeather does not matter as we will be indoors. \nGear: A short telephoto in the 24-70 or 70-200mm range and a tripod or monopod. The studio is fairly dark\, so a faster lens would be ideal\, you’ll be shooting at higher ISOs. \nPlease email me at the GPG address if you are interested.\nCheers and we hope to see you then.
