2024 Grand Valley Image Battle Entrants

The Grand Valley Image Battle (GVIB) is an open competition held every fall with invited clubs in South-Western Ontario, including the Guelph Photographers Guild. This is a club competition, not an individual competition. The 2024 competition was hosted by ours truly, the Guelph Photographers Guild! Each club was limited to 20 submissions that hopefully included as many club members as possible. This year the GPG entered 20 images from 20 individuals with an additional entry in reserve.

This year the Guelph Photographer’s Guild placed fourth out of six clubs who entered, improving on our efforts from last year. The Highland Glen Camera Club (Kitchener-Waterloo), Grand River Imaging and Photographic Society (Kitchener-Waterloo) and Brant Camera Club (Brantford) placed first, second and third respectively with cumulative scores of 451.5, 451.0 and 448 out of a possible 600. The Guild’s cumulative score for the 20 entries was 441.

See the images below:

The first five images below were second, tied for third, and tied for fifth place within the Guild’s entries. Congratulations are extended to Andrew Morse who took first place within the Guild for “Bifröst”, with a score of 26/30 and resulted in second of all of the 120 images entered. Unfortunately Andrew’s image cannot be exhibited at this time but will be posted when available. Second place within the Guild went to John Greenwood for “Illuminating the Imagination” which tied for sixth place overall. Congratulations also to Nancy Schmidt and Noel Upfield, tying for third place within the Guild’s entries, and to June Galbraith and Connie Moore, tying for fifth. The remaining images are in no set order, but all represented the Guild very well! Congratulations to all of the participants, and we look forward to continued improvement in the upcoming GVIB competition, to be hosted by the Highland Glen Camera Club later in 2025!
