2022 Grand Valley Image Battle Entrants

The Grand Valley Image Battle (GVIB) is an open competition held every fall with invited clubs in South-Western Ontario, including the Guelph Photographers Guild. This is a club competition, not an individual competition. The 2022 competition is being hosted by the Brant Camera Club. Each club was limited to 20 submissions that hopefully included as many club members as possible. This year the GPG entered 20 images from 19 individuals. Entries were on a first come first served basis in an attempt to promote our less experienced members to participate in a friendly competition.

Judging has been completed and results will be presented by the Brant Camera Club by ZOOM on February 16, 2023 at 7:00 PM. More details will be forwarded to GPG members when these become available.

In the meantime, check out the images submitted for this year’s GVIB by our guild members! All deserve our congratulations!

International Landscape Photographer of the Year – Andrew Morse

Past Vice-President and active member Andrew Morse entered five images into the International Landscape Photographer of the Year competition in early 2022. I am honoured to announce that two of Andrew’s images made it into the Top 101 Landscape Images that will be included in the ILPOTY annual book.  Only four Canadians had submissions that made it into the Top 101.  With two successful entries out of a field of over 3800, Andrew’s achievement is truly remarkable! Congratulations Andrew!

2021 O3C Open Challenge Entrants

Thirteen members of the Guelph Photographers Guild entered between six and twelve images to the Ontario Council of Camera Club’s 2021 Open Challenge Competition. Of these, seven members had at least one of their images proceed to the final rounds of judging. There were eleven categories: Animals, Architecture, Birds, Botany, Creative Vision, Expansive Views (where direct evidence of man’s influence was allowed), Landscape and Geology (man’s influence not allowed), People, People in Action, Pictorial (things that did not fit other categories) and, the theme, Lines and Curves. The Guild was represented well, and members did very well considering that this was the first time eleven of the thirteen entered this competition. If you wish to see the results and the Awards shows go click this link.

Of special note, Andrew Morse received a second and third place and was recognized as a Specialist in the Landscape and Geology category. Congratulations Andrew!

Check out the best scoring image from each of the entrants. All are to be congratulated for their efforts!
