July 2024 outing

Our July outing will be to the always spectacular Grand River Champion of Champions Powwow.

Date: JULY —27th – 12 noon to 4 pm (rain date on July 28th)

I’ve been to this Powwow prior to Covid, and it is a memorable event, with highly acclaimed dancers, drummers, and singers, all vying for prize money. You’ll get to see representatives from most of North America’s First Nations cultural groups, in their finest regalia. Expect a very active and truly colourful event… and loud too!

There is seating, but the Powwow starts at 10 am, so expect that most of that seating will be taken, you may be lucky and find seating, but really it is far better to wander about and try to get as close to the front as you can. Be warned, getting to the front, in front of the seating will get you yelled at.

Here is the only link that I can find for this year’s event. Read the website carefully, there are house rules.

Gear:  You are probably going to need a medium to long lens here (100-400mm or 70-200 mm). The dance area is roped off, so you’ll not get very close to the action. Bring hats and sunscreen as this is an outdoor event.

It’s about a 1.5 hr drive each way. BTW: Exceptional gas prices in the area at the First Nations gas stations.

Please respond if you are going to attend.

Binbrook 2024 Rodeo

Here is a reminder for the 2024 Binbrook Rodeo. This was an exciting outing last year which we found out about very late. Nevertheless, we had a good showing of members, and got some memorable shots to show for it.

So here we go, ample warning that this is coming up again this year and we are planning to make an outing of it. It’s a bit of a drive, but well worth the effort, and as I always say, check out the side roads on the way back for great photo-ops.

Date: Saturday September 14th — noon to 3 or 4 pm.

Cost: There is a $15 admission charge.
